Julián Plaza García has been a member of the Madrid Bar Association since 1993. He is managing partner of Plaza Iuris Abogados, a firm specialising in information and communications technology and intellectual property. He is a data protection officer for companies and institutions in various sectors (education, healthcare, food, technology); a member of the panel of experts of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and of the Spanish Court of Arbitration in domain name dispute resolution; and co-director of the Executive Master in Digital Law & Technology at Centro de Estudios Garrigues.
He holds a Master in Intellectual and Industrial Property from the University of Alicante (‘Magister Lvcentinvs’) and a bachelor’s degree from the Complutense University of Madrid School of Legal Practice. He is also an ISMS Forum-certified cyber security professional.
He has spent his professional career consulting for Spanish and international companies in various sectors (digital media, telecommunications, payment entities, airlines, retail, e-commerce, food, travel, leisure, marketing, and advertising), advising on IT/IP (distribution, payment gateways, consumers, and users), regulatory compliance, cyber security, and regulated matters (personal data protection, money laundering, advertising).
He has extensive professional experience as a litigation lawyer in civil, commercial, and administrative procedures, particularly in IT/IP matters, appearing before national and international organisations such as the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM), European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), ICANN, Red.es, Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD), French Data Protection Authority (CNIL), and State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of Baden-Württemberg (LfDI).
He is a frequent speaker on IT/IP topics in business centres and forums, a lecturer since 2015 at Spanish and international universities (Universidad Villanueva; Centro de Estudios Garrigues; Universidad Europea; ESERP Business & Law School; Universidad del Rosario, Colombia; Metropolitan Autonomous University, Mexico) and other institutions, both public (Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport of the Madrid Autonomous Community) and private (IOMG Institute of the Dominican Republic, AL A PAR Foundation, Fundación Prevent). He is also a regular contributor to specialised media (Expansión, Cinco Días, Confilegal, Lawyerpress) and co-author of treatises on various aspects related to the IT/IP sector (Francis Lefebvre Digital Law Yearbook, Revista de Privacidad y Derecho Digital).
