Félix Plaza Romero is a partner in the taxation department at Garrigues, where he has pursued his professional career after a stint at Arthur Andersen. He specialises in tax law, particularly in the audio-visual, media, and distribution sectors, where he advises major Spanish and international companies.
He is an also expert in sports law and head of Garrigues’ sports and entertainment, the department that specialises in advisory services for individuals and organisations operating in those fields.
This role sees Félix regularly participates in investment and fundraising transactions, advising Spanish and international investment funds, financial institutions, sports clubs, leagues, federations, sponsors, artists, and athletes.
In recent years, he has amassed vast experience in providing legal advice on the planning and organisation of major sporting and cultural events. He has advised, among others, the Solheim Cup, the LFP World Challenge (a programme that seeks to promote La Liga on its eighty-fifth anniversary), the Spanish Royal Golf Federation on its bid to host the 2018 Ryder Cup , the various committees set up to develop Madrid’s bid to host the Olympic Games, and the city of Madrid itself with regard to its participation in Expo 2010 Shanghai China.
He has been featured by various international directories, including Chambers & Partners, Best Lawyers, and Who’s Who, as a prominent sports law practitioner.
He is an arbitrator for the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
He is also president of Centro de Estudios Garrigues, a law and business school where he served as director from 2017 to 2019.
He is the director of the Executive Programme in Sports Business Administration (SBA). At Centro de Estudios Garrigues, he is also a lecturer for the Executive Programme in International Taxation, where he teaches a course specialising in international taxation for artists and athletes, and for the Master in Taxation. He is also part of the faculty of the Master in Sports Law run by Real Madrid CF and Universidad Europea de Madrid.
He is a regular speaker at seminars and conferences.
He is a member of the Madrid Bar Association.
