Director of the Executive Programme
Cristina Mesa Sánchez is a partner in Garrigues’ intellectual property department and a passionate advocate of new technologies and the fourth industrial revolution. She provides legal advice on both contractual matters and litigation proceedings. She also assists her clients with business strategy to optimise the exploitation of their intangible assets and analyse the viability of new business models.
Her practice focuses on intellectual and industrial property in digital environments, e-commerce, advertising and media contracting, unfair competition, and protection of trade secrets. She also deals with matters related to defending freedom of expression and information in the business environment and issues related to the use of algorithmic systems (e.g. transparency, access, discrimination, etc.).
She also provides recurring advice to technology companies, including e-commerce platforms, marketplaces, social networks, and startups. Cristina boasts extensive experience in these matters particularly in relation to the responsibility of information society service providers, software infringement and sui generis database rights, data pooling agreements, infringements related to additive manufacturing or 3D printing, implementation of augmented reality projects, and dealing with fake reviews, among others. At Garrigues, she also advises companies with ties to the fashion and cosmetics industry, an area where she shares co-management duties.
She is director the Executive Programme in Fashion Law at Centro de Estudios Garrigues. She is also a frequent speaker at various universities, collaborating with associations such as aDigital, ICEX, and 4YFN.
Cristina has been featured by Legal 500 and Best Lawyers in several categories (intellectual property, new technologies law, defamation law, privacy, and trademarks).
She is a member of the Madrid Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, an arbitrator for aDigital, and a member of the legal committee of Alastria.
