Legal clinics statement: situation in Ukraine
11 marzo 2022
In view of the terrible humanitarian crisis unfolding as a result of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, the undersigned legal clinics — as members of the Spanish Network of Legal Clinics and as university structures in which students and teachers engage in the social function of legal studies and whose objectives include offering our students high-quality education based on the promotion of social values and commitment to the defence of human rights — affirm that:
- We stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and with all those in Russia who oppose this conflict.
- We assert the need to guarantee the sovereignty of Ukraine and to respect international law.
- We condemn all attacks on the civilian population, which are serious violations of international humanitarian law.
- We demand a rapid and peaceful solution to this conflict.
- We, the legal clinics of Spanish universities and university centres, offer our services to the Spanish authorities, to the General Council of Spanish Lawyers, and to all entities and organisations working with migrants, pledging to work and coordinate the legal mechanisms needed to organise and expedite any solidarity responses and initiatives set up to help Ukraine overcome this terrible situation.
